Favorite Quote Friday—Exciting News!

Happy Friday! I haven't posted in quite a while, because I've been busy working on my latest manuscript. I hope your year has gotten off to a good start. :-)

If you're a member of my new Books Group on Facebook, you've already heard the news, but for those who haven't . . . I finished my manuscript! Woohoo!! I'm so excited! Remember the novella I mentioned starting when Blade of Darkness released? The one that grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let me go? The one I've been wanting to write for a while? Well, I dove in with no word count restrictions (I'm self-publishing now) and it ended up coming in at 305 pages. LOL. So I'm going to have to start calling it a novel now.

I've already handed it over to my editor. Editing and proofreading will take about a month and a half. Then I'll hand the finished copy over to Tantor Audio, who will get to work producing the audiobook, which will be narrated by Kirsten Potter. That will take about three months. So the ebook, paperback, and audiobook will all release in July. I'll have a specific date for you soon. :-)

I have to get to work writing the blurb now. Condensing an 80,000-word story into one or two paragraphs is not easy. LOL. As soon as I have a cover and blurb, I'll share them with you. I can't wait!

Just a reminder, I've started a new Books Group over on Facebook. Facebook restricts page reach so much now that only 1% or less of the people who have liked my Author Page are seeing my posts. The group is much better. It's constantly growing, and we've been having a lot of fun in it. Group members also get news before everyone but my Street Team. So I hope you'll join. There has been a lot of speculation lately on who this book will feature, but I'm keeping my lips sealed until I reveal the cover and blurb.

One note: If you join the group, you may need to change your settings if you want to see all of the posts instead of just the highlights. To do so, go to:
  • Settings
  • Notifications
  • On Facebook —> Click "Edit"
  • group Activity —> Click "Edit"
  • Dianne Duvall Books Group —> Select "All Posts"
If you join the group, please make sure you answer the two questions. The sole purpose of the questions is to ensure that only readers who are interested in one or both of my series will join, rather than potential spammers, so we can have lots of fun. :-) I look forward to seeing you there!

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! I'd like to send another big thank you out there to the readers who have left reviews for Blade of Darkness. I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I hope you'll enjoy the next book as much. :-) Until then, here's another little taste of Aidan and Dana's story:
Insects hummed.
Frogs croaked.
And every second Dana didn’t tell him to go to hell, Aidan felt a tiny spark of hope.
He motioned to the Taser. “Are you going to use that on me?”
She glanced at the weapon she held. “Would it do any good?”
He shrugged. “It might make you feel better.”
Another nod. “Then I reserve the right to use it on you later. Right now…” Tears welled in her eyes as she swallowed hard once more. “Could you maybe just hold me for a minute?”
Heart aching, he closed the distance between them and pulled her into a tight embrace.
The Taser clattered to the ground as she dropped it and fisted her small hands in the back of his coat.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.” He pressed a kiss to her hair, then rested his cheek on top of her head. “I’m so sorry.”
Have a wonderful weekend!

Favorite Quote Friday & News for the New Year

Happy New Year!! I hope you've all been enjoying the holidays. I haven't posted in quite some time because I was sick for a while and also have been trying to carve out some more time to be with my family.

We actually got several hours of snow here one night, the first we've seen in years. So cool! I was sick with the flu and it was the middle of the night, but I went out and played in it anyway. πŸ˜€ We just had another cold snap that I'm hoping has killed off the mosquitoes and whatever keeps aggravating my allergies. Unfortunately, it also killed off some of my plants, so I'll have to find time to plant more soon.

I noticed the lovely holiday lights around town are beginning to come down, so I thought I'd share some pics of the lights I saw while I was out and about.

I think the last two were my favorites. They were so pretty. I look forward to seeing the lights every year and always end up wishing they'd stay up a little longer.

I've started the new year by launching a new group on Facebook—Dianne Duvall Books Group. Facebook has changed its algorithms yet again, so now less than 1% of people who have Liked my page are shown my posts. I've been hearing from a lot of frustrated readers who haven't seen my posts in so long that they didn't know I had released another Immortal Guardians book (Blade of Darkness). Facebook doesn't seem to limit the reach of Groups, so I started the new group to give us all a place to chat and bring you the latest news. I'm already enjoying it. It's been a lot of fun, so I hope you'll join if you like The Gifted Ones and/or my Immortal Guardians series.

* * * All members of the group can read a Bonus Scene from Blade of Darkness that didn't appear in the published book. * * *

If you're a member of my Street Team or have joined the Dianne Duvall Books Group, then you've already heard this. But for those who haven't, I have book news for you:

When Blade of Darkness released, everyone asked me whose book would be next. I said Seth's book will be the next full-length novel released in the Immortal Guardians series, but that there might be a novella between now and then. Well, in case you haven’t heard yet… there absolutely WILL be a novella first. Sort of. πŸ˜ƒ
A story that has been rambling around the outskirts of my imagination for a while now suddenly leapt forward when I released Aidan's story, grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go. I'm very excited about it. But I'm going to keep you in suspense as to who the hero and heroine are. I want you to find out when I release the blurb and cover. πŸ˜‰ And since I'm self-publishing now, I no longer have to adhere to a prescribed word count. I was supposed to keep the first two under 25k words (100 pages). This one, however, looks like it’s going to come in at around 250 pages, which technically is a novel, not a novella. Hence, the “sort of” above. LOL. It’s still going to be significantly shorter than my other novels, which tend to come in at around 450-500 manuscript pages. So I still think of it as a novella.  I'm so excited!!

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday—the 1st of 2018! Today I thought I would share a brief excerpt of Blade of Darkness with you. Aidan (the hero) is a powerful Celtic immortal and Dana (the heroine) is a mortal psychic.
Dana picked up her fork and speared some salad. “So.” Tucking the crunchy veggies in her mouth, she chewed and swallowed. “You’re smitten with a psychic, are you?”
Relief smoothed the lines in Aidan’s brow. His lips tilted up. “Very much so.”
“Because of the visions?” she asked, trying not to blush.
His smile grew as he picked up his own fork. “I was smitten before the visions. The visions just gave me hope that you might one day be smitten, too.”
And damned if her heart didn’t give a little jump in her chest. “Don’t read my thoughts!”
He chuckled. “I won’t. I’m afraid if I do, I’ll find you trying to think of a diplomatic way to end our date early.”
Better that than him finding her mentally reviewing the visions of them making love.
“You’re blushing,” he said with a wince. “Did I guess right? Are you wanting to end our date?”
“No. I was just…” She shook her head with a smile. “Having those visions about you was already weird. Your knowing about them just makes it…”
“Even weirder?” he suggested.
“You’ve never had erotic visions before?”
“No. Not even about the men I slept with.”
He winked. “Perhaps they simply weren’t very talented in bed.”
I hope you and yours will have a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

As Lord Robert, Earl of Fosterly, attempts to identify and track down the nameless enemy who has been plaguing his lands and people with violence, the most peculiar woman stumbles into his path. Return to the “utterly addictive” (RT Book Reviews), "fast-paced and humorous" (Publishers Weekly) world of New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians.
Dana Pembroke has been able to glimpse the future of those she touches for as long as she can remember. But she never saw Aidan coming. When the tall, dark Celt with the charming grin yet world-weary eyes walks through her door, the future she sees for him is one full of violence, danger, deception… and passion. Because amidst the terrifying battles that unfold in her visions, she also sees herself in Aidan’s arms and in his bed. Dana knows she should keep her distance, but the tender moments and laughter they share entice her even as she finds herself thrust into a world of vampires, immortals, and other preternatural beings.
Immortal Guardian Aidan O’Byrne has been hunting and slaying psychotic vampires for nearly three thousand years, so visions of bloody battles don’t trouble him. The battles Dana foresees, however, show Aidan’s brethren turning against him, so he can’t help but feel alarmed. While he spends as much time as he can with Dana, struggling to decipher her dire predictions, Aidan finds himself utterly smitten. Hope rises that he has finally found a woman who can banish the darkness and loneliness that plague him. But when vampires begin targeting Dana and a powerful enemy spawns chaos, will fate grant them time to find happiness together?

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! Today I thought I would share a snippet of Blade of Darkness with you. Aidan and Dana are the hero and heroine. :-)

Ethan, Heather, Brodie, and Ed all smiled when Dana and Aidan joined them in the living room.

Brodie crossed to Dana. “I don’t know how much you know about Seconds, but our job is to arm and protect the immortals we serve. In this instance, that job extends to protecting you, so if you don’t mind?” He held up a shoulder holster and weapons.

“Oh.” She had thought she would just be observing. “Okay.” While she held out her arms, Brodie fitted her for a shoulder holster he packed with 9mms.

Aidan’s brows drew down as he watched them.

“Is he not supposed to arm me?” she asked. “You look a little pissed.”

Heather laughed. “He just doesn’t like Brodie touching you.”

When Aidan didn’t dispute it, Dana smiled at him. “It’s not like he’s trying to feel me up or anything.”

Aidan’s frown deepened. “He’d lose a hand if he did.”

His Second laughed, unperturbed by the threat.

When Brodie reached both arms around Dana to secure a belt with a thigh holster around her waist, Aidan strode forward and elbowed him aside. “Let me do that,” he grumbled, taking the belt.

Brodie stepped back with a good-natured grin. “Yes, sir.”

Dana watched Aidan as he buckled the belt around her waist, then knelt and went to work, tying the bottom of the holster around her thigh.

He was jealous and didn’t like that he was jealous. Dana didn’t need be telepathic to glean that or to suspect that that was why he wouldn’t meet her eyes.

When at last he did, she grinned. “You are too adorable.”

His soft lips turned up in a sheepish smile. “Sorry about that. Jealousy is new to me. I vow I’ll work on it.”

Dana combed her fingers through his soft, thick, wavy hair. “I don’t mind. I think it’s cute.”

Have a wonderful weekend!

Immortal Guardians Monday—Giveaway, News & Excerpt

Happy Monday! I admit I've never been fond of Monday's, so that's not a phrase I've used very often. But I'm determined to make this a better week than last week and I have exciting news to share with you!

(If you're on my Street Team, you've already heard this.)

When Blade of Darkness released, the two questions I was asked the most were Who will the next book be about? and When will Seth get his own book? I happily told everyone that Seth's book would be the next full-length novel released in the series, but that there might be a novella between now and then. Well, now I can tell you that . . .

There will definitely be a novella between now and then and I'm VERY excited about it! This story has been rambling around in my imagination for quite a while now. And when I published Aidan's book, this story just leapt forward, grabbed me and insisted I tell it next. I don't think I've ever written so fast before. I've had some really fantastic writing days and hope to finish the first draft soon. I'm going to keep the hero and heroine a secret, though, until I reveal the blurb. ;-)

For those who wished my first two novellas had been longer and had been released as individual paperbacks, I have more good news! Because the first two novellas were traditionally published, I had to adhere to a strict word count and was supposed to keep it below 100 pages. This one, however, I will indie publish, so I can make it as long as I want. And it's looking like the manuscript will come in at well over 200 pages. Woohoo!! It will also release in ebook and trade paperback. I'll let you know a little bit later whether or not it will release in audiobook, too. :-)

If you'd like to find some new favorite books and enter to win lots of prizes, Night Owl Reviews is hosting the Winter Wonderland Reader Scavenger Hunt. Many of you mentioned enjoying the last scavenger hunt, so I thought I'd do it again and am participating alongside 32 other authors. The hunt begins today and lasts through December 13th. And 118 Winners will be awarded $825 in prizes. I hope you'll join the fun! You can do so HERE.

You may have noticed I haven't been posting as often and have missed quite a few Favorite Quote Friday posts. Sorry about that. I've been spending less time online and more time writing furiously on this latest story. :-) So I thought I would share an excerpt of Blade of Darkness today. It features Aidan and Dana (the hero and heroine), as well as Ethan and Heather (hero and heroine of Shadows Strike), and is told from Dana's point of view:

“Heather,” Aidan murmured, “I’d like you to remain here on the roof with Dana while Ethan and I take care of the vampires.”

Heather’s face darkened with a belligerent frown. “Are you ordering me to stay here because I’m a girl?”

Aidan’s eyebrows flew up. “No,” he responded with obvious surprise. “I want you to stay here and guard Dana because you match me in strength and speed. She’ll be safer with you.”

Ethan nodded.

“Oh.” Heather sent Aidan an apologetic smile. “Sorry. Force of habit. I have to deal with a lot of good ol’ boys in law enforcement agencies and that run along and play, little girl, while the men take care of business attitude has gotten old.”

Ethan grinned. “I keep trying to tell you, honey, immortal males aren’t stupid. We love strong women.”

Aidan smiled at Dana. “We really do.” And the affection that accompanied his words as he stared down at her made warmth unfurl inside her.

“All right, all right,” Heather said, waving her hands at Aidan. “Don’t get all goo-goo eyed. You boys have work to do. Get moving.”

Laughing, Aidan leaned down and brushed a quick kiss against Dana’s lips. “I’ll be back in a minute.”

Turning away, he joined Ethan at the edge of the roof. Then the two just stepped off and dropped out of sight.

Yep. My guys love strong women. And the hero in my current WIP (work in progress) is no different. ;-)

Have a great week!

Favorite Quote Friday—Blade of Darkness

Happy Friday! We had a stretch of cool days here that had me flinging the windows wide to let the breeze in. Sooooo nice. Alas, it looks like the heat is back.

For those who celebrated Halloween, I hope you had a fun one! We had some rain here, but it didn't seem to deter the trick-or-treaters.

Congratulations to the winners of my Facebook Halloween Contest:

Debbie K.
Selene C.
I loved the Halloween costume suggestions for Sheldon. Looks like a lot of you would like to see him in a kilt. If you missed the fun, some of the other costume suggestions for Sheldon were: Seth, Roland, a porn star, Dana with a tranq gun, Rocky Horror, Peter Pan, Hugh Hefner, and Robin Hood.πŸ˜€ I loved them all.

I got a very nice surprise this week. Romance Rehab chose Darkness Dawns as one of their 11 Sweet and Sexy Romance Novels to Binge on this Halloween. Yay! I love Roland and Sarah. One of my favorite things about writing a series is not having to say goodbye to characters. And I'm really enjoying the latest developments in Roland and Sarah's story. πŸ˜‰

Long and Short Reviews gave Blade of Darkness a fantastic 5-star review:

"Blade of Darkness left me breathless; every single feeling and emotion a story can evoke is brilliantly brought to life with an impact that left me clamoring for more. I don’t know how Ms. Duvall does it but she consistently delivers a high impact, thoroughly engaging story in each installment..."

You can read the Full Review HERE.

Blade of Darkness Was also nominated for Non-Erotic Book of the Month by Long and Short Reviews. There may still be time to vote. So if you would like to do so, you can vote HERE.

And great reviews continue to roll in for Blade of Darkness on Amazon. Thank you so much for taking the time to add one. I'm always so happy to see that readers are enjoying the story. :-)

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! For today's selection, I've chosen a quote from one of my favorite scenes in Blade of Darkness that features Aidan and Dana, the hero and heroine:
He wrapped his arms around her.
Still smiling, she slid her own around his neck.
“Still like me?” he asked softly, the glow in his eyes failing to hide the vulnerability that lurked there.
She nodded.
“You’re not afraid of me?”
“No.” Whatever his abilities, he was still Aidan.
Her Aidan.
Closing his eyes, he hugged her tight and buried his face in her hair.
“Thank you.”
Have a wonderful weekend!
